Croatia adopts new whistleblowing law

A new law on whistleblower protection has now been passed.

The new legislation – the Law on the protection of reporters of irregularities – transposes the EU Directive on the protection of reporting persons.

The law was published on the 15 April and entered into force on the 23 April 2022 making Croatia the ninth country to adopt transposition legislation. Croatia already had a whistleblowing law since 2019 but significant amendments were required in order to bring the national framework in line with the minimum standard required by the Directive.

Most Member States are delayed in the transposition status and the Commission has begun infringement proceedings.
